Since we drove into Mexico as a temporary resident with our American plated vehicle, we have to drive it back to the border and get it out of the country before we move to Portugal.
We did not want to deal with that part of the move so we contacted Tim and Jayme, expats living in Lake Chapala, MX, whose business is to take expat cars to the border and with a power of attorney, they can return the TIP (temporary import permit) and then drive it to Texas to sell the car.
If you prefer to nationalize your car, they can assist with that also.
We hope this info helps other expats in the same situation.
